Pingtung Martial Arts Hall, a contemporary museum in Taiwan, is a historical architecture called “BUTOKUDEN“ which built in 1930 Japanese colonization period. The result is a design concept that is based on the simple idea of modernizing and simplifying the characteristic roof “Karahafu” to show a type of gable with a style peculiar to Japan.
.
The logo comprises both the Mandarin character “Martial Arts” and an abstract illustration of the curve of typical roofs on its buildings. In addition, a flexible system of patterns has been developed that are inspired by architectural details and which can be reconfigured almost infinitely.
.
The design focus was to glorify the architectural appearance, to emphasize its use and to show how this recognizable holds the essence of artmaking and storytelling.

印刷作品可在這裡:overthecityshop.com/products/historic-tainan-1945 或這裡 etsy.com/uk/listing/661044657/historic-tainan-hand-drawn-pictorial 買到,或者直接與我聯繫,此款鉛筆原作也即將可以購買.
This is Tainan City in about 1945. It was drawn from hundreds of old photos and walks around what remains. Limited edition archival quality prints available (30 big, 30 half size)! It's a twin to the drawing of central Taipei I made a couple of years ago. I wanted to create a unique view of the city right before it changed forever. I've enjoyed getting to know this city. The area of old Taipei I drew was very planned and modern while the center of Tainan is full of atmospheric winding lanes. A lot of the architecture from the Qing and Japanese eras was beautiful and enjoyable to draw. My favorite is the high court building, which I'm happy still exists, and the Miyako Theater, which sadly doesn't. Apart from the landmarks, photos were quite difficult to locate for this drawing. This stalled me a few times. Prints are available from here: etsy.com/uk/listing/661044657/historic-tainan-hand-drawn-pictorial or here: overthecityshop.com/products/historic-tainan-1945 , or just message me. The original pencil drawing will be available soon too. A share would be appreciated!

Japan’s tallest single-tier waterfall, the Nachi Falls, is so majestic that it was once considered a religious site. These days, the mist of the waterfall sprays the three-storey pagoda of Seigantoji within the Kumano Nachi Taisha shrine, framing a postcard-perfect perspective of nature’s awesome power plus monumental Japanese architecture.

Video Title: Why Japan's Great Pyramid of Giza Can't be Built Until 2110
"London. October, 1992. A Japanese man entered a government building near Chancery Lane, and made his way up to an office on the first floor. This was the London branch of the UK’s Patent Office. You see, this man was there on behalf of Japan’s renowned Shimizu Corporation - a leading architectural and engineering firm that was (and is) among the top in the world, and he was there to apply for a patent. To secure their ideas globally it was necessary to apply not just in Japan. Now this particular patent was for no ordinary idea. It was for something grand, something spectacular. The idea was to build giant pyramids in the middle of some of the largest and busiest urban centers in the world - starting with Tokyo. These infrastructures would be so large, they could house entire cities. But why? What was this for? And who exactly is the Shimizu Corporation? To understand this, we need to go back in time, back over 200 years ago to the company’s inception..."

Video Title: How to Build an Undersea Tunnel from Japan to Korea
"In 1917, a Japanese Army general by the name of Kuniaki Koiso, wanted to connect Japan to the rest of Asia. He suggested the idea of building a grand tunnel from Japan all the way to Korea. Certainly a tremendous feat of engineering, and not just for that point in time. Over the next hundred years, through the various incarnations, and despite the numerous proposals, the project never moved beyond conception. Today, there’s still yet to be a tunnel or bridge connecting the two countries. But the question is, for how long?..."
